Righteous Kill

A series of killings put two veterans cop Turk (Robert De Niro) and Rooster (Al Pacino) into a ghost chase of a serial killer whose victims are unconvicted suspects. The killer has a signature, leaving a piece of paper with a poem that somewhat tells the reason why the victim is killed.

It is a tough nut to crack until the two finally faced the killer in an unexpected turn of events.

If you like cop stories, then this movie is for you. Veteran actors and award winners Robert de Niro and Al Pacino, put color to this movie. This is a cop movie you’ll love to watch. I give this movie a 7 out of 10 rating.

Babylon AD

Babylon AD shows a picture of our world in a not so distant future where chaos and killings are everywhere. Only the powerful lives and the weak dies. The Sisters of the Dark Light is a religious group who wants to take this power by showing the world of a great miracle, the virgin birth.

Veteran-turned-mercenary Thoorop (Vin Diesel) was tasked to escort the a girl from Russia to America in return for his freedom and his chance to go back home. For Thoorop it was just an easy pick-up and drop the package routine, until he finds the reason for his mission.

This movie is simply awesome! I think this is one of Vin Diesel’s bests. It is a fast-paced, action-packed movie with lots of stunts and muscle power. I give this movie a 7 out of 10 rating. This is a Vin Diesel movie you don’t want to miss.

Bangkok Dangerous

Bankok Dangerous is a movie about a highly skilled assasin whose life is about to change forever. Joe (Nicolas Cage) is an assasin who works only for money and always gets the job done. Joe lives by his four rules.

• Rule #1: Never ask any questions.
• Rule #2: Never make ties with an outsider.
• Rule #3: Never leave any traces.
• Rule #4: Know when to get out.

Joe’s on for his last client where he will travel to Bankok Thailand and perform four assasinations. Get the job done and go home very rich. But some things in this city turn things around. Will Joe’s four rules help him get through? Or, will he discover something that is beyond his expectations?

For me, if its from Nicolas Cage, it must be good! But the movie fell short from my expectations. The story line is dull and didn’t gave justice to Cage’s efforts. It a good Cage movie but certainly not one of his bests. I give a 6 out of 10 rating for this movie. This is a movie worth watching.

Avatar The Movie

I caught the buzz last month that Nickelodeon will be making a motion picture of my favorite cartoon series, Avatar The Last Air Bender. If you happened to follow the episodes, you will really fall addict to it. Its one of the best cartoon series ever.

Avatar the Movie will be directed by M. Night Shyamalan and is expected to hit the big screens on 2010. It would be a trillogy or a 2-hour movie as Shyamalan describes it. The difficult part of the movie would be in the first book where the plot is set in the arctic.

This is going to be a hit. I am so excited. Avatar fans like me are wondering who will play the characters in the movie. Although Shyamalan said in an interview that he prefer to choose new faces to play the caracters, but many can not help but speculate who would be perfect for the characters.

Fare Rollback? Really?

Land Transportation Franchise and Regulatory Board or LTFRB is eying on roll back of fare prices specially taxis. The prices on liquified petroleum gas (LPG) is showing a decrease. Majority of taxis are running on LPG gas.

This would be a great benefit to the taxi commuters but a loss to taxi drivers. Taxi operators are safe, since their rent price remains the same.

The rise in oil prices affects everybody especially the commuters. We are paying additional 10 Php on top of the taxi meter value.

A fare rollback? This I got to see!

Juan Manuel Marquez Really Means Business

I really thought that Joel Casamayor is going to be a big hurdle for Juan Manuel Marquez in his wild dreams for a rematch with Manny Pacquiao. But after seeing their fight yesterday, Joel Casamayor turns out to be a big winnie for me. It seems to me that Casamayor is not even “in” for the fight, compare to Marquez who is willing to eat rocks and punches. The fight ended in Round 11 with Marquez win over Casamayor in a TKO.

I don’t like Marquez, but his last fight with Casamayor is exceptional. Marquez is in a rampage! Pacquiao have only a number of fights before he retires. Lets see if Marquez can beat the odds and get his chance for a rematch with Pacquiao.

Death Race

Death Race is a movie about a race held inside a high security detention facility where racers use vehicles modified with heavy armor, high power machine guns and rockets, and a lot of muscle power. The players are prison inmates who want to take a shot at freedom. The rules are simple, win 5 races alive and you win your freedom.

Jason Statam is the star of the move, playing the character of Jensen Ames, an ex-racer who won several racing titles but lost his license to race. Ames was sent to prison after being framed up and convicted for killing his wife. Ames was offered by the warden a chance to compete in the Death Race and use the identity of the Death Race superstar Frankenstein. Frank (Frankenstein) was one of the best players in the race and is identified by his Jason-like mask. Frank already won 4 out of 5 races, but before he could win his 5th race he died. Frank is one of the audience’s favorite, his presence in the race means big profit for the Death Race owners. After Ames accepted the offer, he discovers a lot of things behind the race; friendship, the truth and his wife’s killer.

Ames had a baby girl left orphaned when he was sent to prison. He would do everything to get his freedom and his baby back even if it takes him to win the Death Race.

Death race is a fast-paced, action-packed movie with lots of stunts and sexy babes. Fasten your seatbelts; this is a full-adrenalin ride. I give a 7 out of 10 rating for this movie. This is a movie you wouldn’t want to miss.

Google’s Large Hadron Collider Logo

If you happened to check Google’s logo today, you will see Google’s Large Hadron Collider logo. Google and Yahoo! are very playful with their logos. This is not the first time they played with their logos. I think almost every day or once a meaningful occation is celebrated Google and Yahoo! shares to the world the celebration through their logos.

A Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is an instrument used for colliding opposing beams of protons charged with very high energy. It was build by European Organization for Nuclear Research(CERN). If you can still remember your chemistry lessons, protons are very small particles that are visible only through an electronic telescope.

A LHC is a particle accelerator complex with a circumference of 27km and depth ranging from 50 to 175 m under ground. It accelerates this photons and collides them to confirm the existence of much smaller particles like the Higgs Boson which is believed to be the god-particle, a particle in which all things are created and gives mass to them. This field for study is called Particle Physics.

Ducks Quack, Eagles Fly

A friend e-mailed me this story about freedom of choice. I hope you like it too.

Years ago, my friend, Harvey Mackay, told me a wonderful story about a cab driver that proved this point. He was waiting in line for a ride at the airport. When a cab pulled up, the first thing Harvey noticed was that the taxi was polished to a bright shine. Smartly dressed in a white shirt, black tie, and freshly pressed black slacks, the cab driver jumped out and rounded the car to open the back passenger door for Harvey .  He handed my friend a laminated card and said: ‘I’m Wally, your driver. While I’m loading your bags in the trunk I’d like you to read my mission statement.’   Taken aback, Harvey read the card. It said: Wally’s Mission Statement: ‘To get my customers to their destination in the quickest, safest and cheapest way possible in a friendly environment. ‘This blew Harvey away, especially  when he noticed that the inside of the cab matched the outside. Spotlessly  clean!

As he slid behind the wheel, Wally said, ‘Would you like a cup of coffee? I have a thermos of regular and one of decaf.’  My friend said jokingly, ‘No, I’d prefer a soft drink.’   Wally smiled and said, ‘No problem. I have a cooler up front with regular and Diet Coke, water and orange juice.’  Almost stuttering, Harvey said, ‘I’ll take a Diet Coke.’   Handing him his drink, Wally said, ‘If you’d like something to read, I have The Wall Street Journal, Time, Sports Illustrated and USA Today.’

As they were pulling away, Wally handed my friend another laminated card.  ‘These are the stations I get and the music they play, if you’d like to listen to the radio.’
And as if that weren’t enough, Wally told Harvey that he had the air conditioning on and asked if the temperature was comfortable for him.  Then he advised Harvey of the best route to his destination for that time of day.  He also let him know that he’d be happy to chat and tell him about some of the sights or, if Harvey preferred, to leave him  with his own thoughts. 

‘Tell me, Wally,’ my amazed friend asked the driver, ‘have you always served customers like this?’
Wally smiled into the rearview mirror. ‘No, not always. In fact, it’s only been in the last two years. My first five years driving, I spent most of my time complaining like all the rest of the cabbies do. Then I heard the personal growth guru, Wayne Dyer, on the radio one day. He had just written a book called  ‘You’ll See It When You Believe It’. Dyer said that if you get up in the morning expecting to have a bad day, you’ll rarely disappoint yourself. He said, ‘Stop complaining! Differentiate yourself from your competition. Don’t be a duck. Be an eagle. Ducks quack and complain. Eagles soar above the crowd.'’

‘That hit me right between the eyes,’ said Wally. ‘Dyer was really talking about me. I was always quacking and complaining, so I decided to change my attitude and become an eagle. I looked around at the other cabs and their drivers. The cabs were dirty, the drivers were unfriendly, and the customers were unhappy. So I decided to make some changes. I put in a few at a time.  When my customers responded well, I did more.’
‘I take it that has paid off for you,’ Harvey said.  ‘It sure has,’  Wally replied. ‘My first year as an eagle, I doubled my income from the previous year. This year I’ll probably quadruple it. You were lucky to get me today. I don’t sit at cabstands anymore. My customers call me for appointments on my cell phone or leave a message on my answering machine. If I can’t pick them up myself, I get a reliable cabbie friend to do it and I take a piece of the action.’

Wally was phenomenal. He was running a limo service out of a Yellow Cab. I’ve probably told that story to more than fifty cab drivers over the years, and only two took the idea and ran with it. Whenever I go to their cities, I give them a call. The rest of the drivers quacked like ducks and told me all the reasons they couldn’t do any of what I was suggesting.

Wally the Cab Driver made a different choice… He decided to stop quacking like the ducks and start soaring like the eagles. 
No one can make you serve customers well. You make the choice. That’s because great service is a choice.

Yesterday I attended a technical presentation on Sun Servers held at Broken Shire College. The presentation featured Sun’s top-of the line servers which include Sun Blade 6000, Sun Fire X2250 and Sun Ultra 24 Workstation. 

The presentation was facilitated by Digos Wifi Service Provider. 

Aside from Sun Servers, a presentation on BizZone Hosting using Savionne platform and Java training packages by Greppoo. 

During the question and answer portion, I managed to get this cool mug from Digos Wifi Service.

Its a beautiful day

My friend emailed me this heartwarming story. It’s really a good story to share, so here it is.A blind boy sat on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet. He held up a sign which said: “I am blind, please help.” There were only a few coins in the hat.

A man was walking by. He took a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat. He then took the sign, turned it around, and wrote some words. He put the sign back so that everyone who walked by would see the new words.

Soon the hat began to fill up. A lot more people were giving money to the blind boy. That afternoon the man who had changed the sign came to see how things were. The boy recognized his footsteps and asked, “Were you the one who changed my sign this morning? What did you write?”

The man said, “I only wrote the truth. I said what you said but in a different way.” What he had written was: “Today is a beautiful day and I cannot see it.”

Do you think the first sign and the second sign were saying the same thing?

Of course both signs told people that the boy was blind. But the first sign simply said the boy was blind. The second sign told people they were so lucky that they were not blind. Should we be surprised that the second sign was more effective?  

Moral of the Story:

Be thankful for what you have. Be creative. Be innovative. Think differently and positively.
